Do you need to learn how to better manage your impulses to eat? You are certainly not alone!!
Most people find that their weight management effort ultimately collapses from a gradual or even sudden return to impulsive eating rather than from not knowing what they should be eating and doing.
Sometimes it is indeed a sort of gradual return to eating without plan or control - sort of like you've gotten tired of always having to watch and wrestle. It can feel like a slow slide down the proverbial slippery slope - back to where you were before you started dieting - or worse. And it can be so discouraging - if you notice at all.
Sometimes it is a much more fierce plunge into eating like you've been taken over by alien forces making you eat like a crazy person - and you notice, but feel completely helpless to intercept and recover. It is indeed discouraging.
Do you find any of this true for you? Do you find that sooner or later your resolve to manage your eating is overtaken by a return to impulsive eating?
If so, please stop in and learn what we have to say about all of that. Maybe it is time to stop trying to fix this problem by launching a next new diet, hoping things will be different. Please think about it and consider studying this problem head on with us...
The focus of a diet plan is telling you what you should eat. This is indeed important in weight management, but knowing what to eat is simply different than knowing how to manage your eating impulses.
Whether you are a first time dieter or a veteran of weight yo-yo cycles, learning a systematic approach to managing your eating impulses is as important as having an eating and activity plan. Many of our patients find this the crucial, but generally unidentified, missing link for long-term success.
If what we are saying makes sense to you, you may want to consider the program on this website.
Our program will guide you through the process of building this critical component of long-term success with weight management. We do not tell you what to eat. We show you how to develop a systematic practice of intercepting and rechanneling each eating impulse as it is happening.
Our approach features regular use of the Eating Impulse Analyzer (EIA©) - a powerful clinical tool that helps you identify and intercept the underlying driver to each impulse as it is active. The EIA© guides you through selecting specific steps to directly resolve the active eating impulse without eating.
This systematic eating impulse management approach using the EIA© was developed by Dr. Bill Picon of the George Washington University Weight Management Center. The EIA© program is used extensively by patients at the Center and is now available through this website.
Regular use of the EIA© will help you:
| * | Establish the practice of intercepting each eating impulse before you eat |
| * | Build and install a system of affirming and encouraging self-talk to guide you through eating impulse management |
| * | Analyze your impulse data to find the underlying drivers to each of your eating impulses |
| * | Identify specific non-eating approaches to resolve each eating impulse |
| * | Monitor your progress with controlling and re-channeling your eating impulse response |
